Sonja Mitchell

Unit Coordinator, Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Agent

Sonja Mitchell is the Unit Coordinator and Family and Consumer Sciences Agent for Virginia Cooperative Extension in the City of Newport News. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Hampton University, and her Masters of Science degree in Family Life and Youth Development at North Carolina State University. As an Extension Agent, she is responsible for providing education and resources to citizens of Newport News in three program areas: Family Financial Management, Nutrition and Health, and Human Development. She also provides continuing education and professional development to staff and colleagues as a member of the Southeast District Program Leadership Team. As a State Facilitator, she assists the community and other professionals in organizing their ideas and building action plans to meet goals and objectives. Sonja enjoys collaborating with the City of Newport News other agencies in the community to meet the needs of citizens in various educational ways.
